Aren’t you always glad when you end your day happy and satisfied?

Sometimes, it does not seem the case for most of us.

I don’t know about you. But, what I have seen, in my  case, is that there is always always a thing, which will often change, at times, the course of my day from bad to good, or vice-versa.

What has helped me a lot of times are what I call the “The 4 Little Things To Make My Day.”

Untitled-11

1. I begin my day with a longing desire for God alone.

This is attitude is what Jesus calls “being poor in spirit,” in Matthew 5. The outcome of this discipline is the outpouring of God’s love and happiness throughout the day.

My day is not just an accident, but a gift that God would like me to use for the Lord. Therefore, I entirely dedicate it to God acknowledging that what I am and what I do during the day should point back to God’s grace and love.

2. I make my day is to acknowledge my vulnerabilities.

We live in a time in which people are more private than ever. As a result, the idea of community has also changed. Consequently, it has become so hard to trust each other.

And because of that, it is close to impossible for people, in the church or in society, to share what’s on their heart.

What Jesus is suggesting, in Matthew 5:4, is that for one to receive comfort, he or she has first to begin by acknowledging his or her vulnerability. We have to do it with someone we know and more importantly with God. Begin and end your day by telling God some of the issues, which make you vulnerable.

Trust me. God will give you strength and power to be the best of who you should always be every day of your life!

3. I identify ways to show mercy and do good for someone.

This third little thing to make your day is what Jesus talks refers to as the pursuit of righteousness and mercy.

Our righteousness is reflected in an intentional deepening of our relationship with God and neighbor. It is fulfilled in doing justice and showing mercy to one another. So, find someone you could make smile at work, in your family, at a store or anywhere else.

Make it a task on your daily to-do list and watch how many lives you impact everyday as a result.

4. I pursue Peace with all.

This is a tough one though. But, it is also God’s commandment to love everyone. Even the people who do not like us. Jesus says that peacemakers will be called sons and daughters of God (Matthew 5).

In other words, how would you say that you are a child of God if you do not pursue peace with everyone?

Not only peacemakers are called sons and daughters of God, but they also inherit the Kingdom of heaven.

Ok, don’t get me wrong here. It is not by being at peace with everyone that we will inherit God’s Kingdom. It is instead that because we are God’s children, we are then able to be at peace with everyone.

This requires you and I partnering with God in the process. It is an intentional act of reaching out to other people, even the ones with whom we are not comfortable. That is what Christ did, and which He would still do today!

A longing desire for God, acknowledging my vulnerabilities, showing mercy to all and pursuing peace with everyone are the 4 little things that help make my day.

Have I been having great days everyday? Not always.

But, at the end of every single day, as my family and I gather for prayer before going to bed, I often share the ups and downs from my day with God looking forward to the next day.

Early in the morning, most of the time, since I am not an early morning riser (even though have been trying to become one), and unless I have some Starbucks coffee, I ask God to help me to faithfully live out the 4 little things to make my day!

That is my daily routine. You have yours and can come up with something a little bit different, and which will work with your own schedule.
