Being trustworthy is a vital element of Christian character, which also requires you to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, embrace God-ly values and be grateful.
Lack of trust kills vitality, relationships and crashes all opportunities for growth as a community.
I believe that the disciples, in the first century, understood the importance of trust.
They worked on being a trustworthy community of faith in society, which created space for all people.
Let’s learn from them and see what that kind of trustworthiness could also mean for you and me today, and eventually help us thrive as a community of believers.
Trustworthiness is a matter of the heart
Don’t mislead yourself!
Trustworthiness has to do with your heart. And, your heart is such an essential element of who you are for many reasons.
Let’s look at three of them for the sake of our article.
First, everything you are and do flows from your heart.
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4: 23. NLT.
You can tell, based on the Scripture above, that your heart pretty much guides and shapes your actions, words, and thoughts.
You and I have to realize that it’s not about how we want people to see us more than how God sees us.
Jesus told the religious leaders during His days these words, which also apply to us today:
You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. Luke 16: 15. ESV.
Trustworthiness is the realization that it’s first all about God who knows our heart.
Second, trustworthiness enables you to see God.
Our ability to see God is dependent on the state of our heart. Jesus said it clearly, in the sermon on the mount,
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Matthew 5: 8. ESV.
We see God when we are pure in heart. Not only, do we see God, but people, in our life, and as a result, can also see God through our character.
Our character, with a focus on being trustworthy, is God’s strategy to show up in the lives of the people we meet in life.
Third, God dwells in your heart.
Here’s a prayer from Paul,
Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love. Ephesians 3: 17. ESV.
One very important thing about becoming trustworthy has to start with you making sure that Christ dwells in your heart.
Your heart matters so much in God’s eyes. So, choose to make room for God in your heart, and nothing else.
Trustworthiness is a choice between selflessness and selfishness
Trustworthiness is a choice you’ve got to make on a daily basis.
It’s a choice between God and self.
For you to become trustworthy, you’ve got to choose a selfless lifestyle.
- Make God the Master in your life.
- See yourself as God’s servant.
- Choose to serve God faithfully.
- Look at your every single relationship as a divine appointment for you to serve the people involved in this specific relationship.
In summary
Trustworthiness means more than just earning trust from people. It requires you to do two things. First, entirely devote yourself to God. Second, manage wisely all that God has given you: self, people, resources, etc.
