I know when it comes to the idea of leadership, you may think that it doesn’t apply to you. Or you may claim that you’re a leader, but don’t have a clear idea about how to make it work better.

If you’re not sure about whether you’re a leader or not, then, I encourage you to read the following lines.

God Designed You to be a leader

I should probably start by stating that “God designed you to be a leader.”

Yes, you were made to become a leader. You may also have heard this: “no one is born a leader, but we become leaders.”

  • God placed you wherever you are now to influence your surroundings.
  • You are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
  • You are God’s witness.
  • You are to make disciples and teach them God’s way of life.

All the above is who God intended you to be. God has placed you where you are to influence people’s lives by embodying what God’s Kingdom is all about here on earth.

Doing so means that you show, demonstrate and teach through your words and actions God’s love.

Now, here are the ways that can help you be the leader God wants you to be.

First, Connect with God

There are good benefits you get when you stay connected to God through Jesus Christ:

  • You have the ability to bear fruit. People are drawn to a tree that has good fruit. And, that’s influence.
  • You can do lots of other things. Through Christ, you have the ability to do so many other things you never thought you would do in life.
  • You won’t wither. Through Christ, you will always be the best fit for what God wants you to do. You’ll continue to be relevant, no matter the changes that happen around you.

Second, connect with yourself

Staying connected to God helps you discover more about yourself. Here are the key things you benefit from connecting with God and self:

  • You discover who you truly are. You find your identity in God. Read Acts 17: 28.
  • You discover your life mission. This is the primary reason why you’re here on earth. You find more about that only when you connect with God and yourself through Christ.
  • You discover and are able to tap into your potential and gifting. First, remember that you are the temple of the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 6: 19). After making sure that God dwells in you, not only you receive gifts of the Holy Spirit, but you also discover how much God has invested in you.

Third, Change your belief system

You may be connected to God through Christ and yourself. But, change comes as a result of a personal choice.

It’s a choice of embracing a new way of life. In other words, you’re going to have to make a decision to change your core values.

These come out of your belief system. People’s belief systems are not established over night. It’s believed that they start between birth and around the age of 10 to 12 years old.

What happens during this early stages of life will determine the kind of person you’re likely to become later in life.

The good news is that belief systems can change. And, the only person to make happen, in your case, is you.

Here’ what happens when you change your belief system through faith in Jesus Christ:

  • You have a new self-perception. You see yourself as who God says you are. You focus on who God intended you to be. You believe that you have all that it takes to be a Christian leader.
  • You change your self-confidence. First, you know that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 3: 13). Second, you realize that God is working through you because you are God’s temple (1 Corinthians 6: 19). Third, you have the promise that you’re never alone for Jesus is with you until the end of time. Last, you are a member of the body of Christ and God’s ambassador wherever you are (2 Corinthians 5: 20).

Last, Lead now

So, now what you’re left to do is to lead.

Leading means that you step out now with all what we’ve talked about to influence your surroundings. By surroundings,  I don’t mean only your environment or context in which you live.

I’m actually talking about all areas of your life and through the different roles you play on a daily basis:

  • Family.
  • Relationships.
  • School.
  • Work.
  • Church.
  • Community, etc.

You’re a leader, not in private only, but also in public. That means wherever you are, you can influence, and through you people can experience transformation in their lives too.

Bringing it together

God designed you to be a leader. You only discover it first by connecting with God. When you do so, you’re able to discover the leader in you. Next, this discovery will require you to change your belief system and replace it with one that will help you fulfill God’s mission in your life. It will eventually empower you to lead from wherever you live. So, lead now!

How did you discover the leader in you? Or, how are you helping someone else discover the leader in her (or him)? I want to learn from you. Please, leave your comment below.
