Fear to Hope

At the time, I’m updating this article from April 2020, it’s the first day of March 2021. And, that’s close to a year into the COVID pandemic.

Even though more people are increasingly getting now the vaccine, we should still admit that there’s been a lot of fear in society, as a result of COVID.

But, remember that fear is a liar, no matter what form it presents itself to you. You can conquer it. That’s exactly what I share with you in the following lines.

Conquering fear moves you to a place of hope, which is such an essential mental state of being you need to be in, as a human being.

Last year (2020), I wrote this article as the first in the series, “Stay Healthy,” which discusses Biblical and practical ways one can transform their negative into positive emotions.

These tools will enable us to maintain our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health when we go through tough times.

The series discusses the following:

Here’s a scripture we’ll be using our foundation,

But now thus says the Lordhe who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. Isaiah 43: 1. ESV.

We’ll get back to that later. But, first, here are what most consider to be common triggers of fear in us:

  • The loss of visibility (of surroundings), and darkness.
  • Heights and flying.
  • Social interaction and rejection.
  • Snakes, rodents, spiders, and other animals.
  • Death and dying.

[bctt tweet=”Loss, in any form (control, place, meaning, relationship, etc.) combined with anticipated or experienced hurts, and all the unknowns (uncertainties) set us up for fear! ” username=””]

Make God your Anchor

Back to our scripture. What you notice in Isaiah 43 is that God is reminding the Israelites that God is the Creator and in control. Read verse one again!

What that means is:

  • God is bigger than anyone or anything.
  • God can change times and circumstances.
  • God is the Creator of everything and everyone.

[bctt tweet=”Making God your anchor means you shift your mental focus back on God alone! ” username=””]

That’s what we call “active faith.” It’s also the kind of faith that requires you to remind you that God is the Creator of everything and everyone, and, therefore, God can change times and circumstances.

God will make things work for those who love God and who answered to God’s Word (read Romans 8: 28).

Claim these things back

Your redemption

[bctt tweet=”The God who created you does not want you to live in fear. ” username=””]

God wants us to claim our redemption. And what that means is:

  • God paid such a high price to save us all (1 Peter 1: 18).
  • God has delivered us all and set us free from sin, and anything that causes fear (Galatians 5: 1).
  • God has restored and healed you from your past (Isaiah 53: 5).
  • God has a future for you (Jeremiah 29: 11).

Your name

[bctt tweet=”Fear gives you a false perception of who you truly are! ” username=””]

Fear makes you think:

  • You have no purpose.
  • Your life has no meaning.
  • You have no good character.
  • You have no honor.

Fear steals, destroys, and can kill, just like what the thief does according to Jesus’ words in John 10:10.

Remember, therefore, God has called you by name. In other words, God has given you a name, which implies that your life has meaning, and you are here on earth for a specific mission (purpose).

Your place

Not only, but God has also given and called you by name. You are also a child of the Living God. And, that is so because you have believed and received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior.

In case you have not done it yet, today is your time. Pray this simple pray,

O Lord Jesus, I repent of all my sins. I confess them before you, and invite you into my life as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you for forgiving my sins, which was made possible through your death and resurrection. In your name, I pray. Amen.

Because you’ve just said the above prayer, or have already given your whole life to Christ, then you can experience what John talks about:

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1: 12. ESV.

You are now a child of God. What that also means is:

  • You now belong to God.
  • You are a member of God’s family.
  • You are a member of the body of Christ (The Church).

[bctt tweet=”All those who belong to God and are members of God’s family (and Church) are under God’s protection. So, no reason to fear because God never forsakes or leaves us (Deuteronomy 31: 6). ” username=””]

Bringing it together

Fear is a liar. The only thing it does to you is to misplace your mental focus away from God. It also distorts the perception of who you indeed are. You defeat fear by choosing to make God your Anchor. God has already redeemed and given you a name and place. No one or nothing can take that away from you because you’re in God’s hands. So, no reason to fear, no matter what changes you go through in life. That’s how we move from fear to hope!
