Do have your New Year resolutions for 2017 yet?
If not, that’s OK and it’s not yet too late. I can help you begin the process.
Also, I would like you to be among the 8 percents of those who get to accomplish their New Year resolutions.
As you start thinking about your resolutions for this year, keep in mind that whatever goals you come up with, these are only tools. They are tools to help you be a better version of yourself this year.
The 3 essential steps you should consider are as follows:
- Set goals that will help you love better.
- Set goals that will help you care better.
- Set goals that will help you serve better.
1. Love better.
Love implies relationships. It then affects the following:
- Feelings. You express your feelings through words and actions. Looking back to 2016, how did you express your feelings to people? And based on that, you can now choose how to do it better this year. Here’s an example. “This year, I will listen more to people close to me raise without trying to fix them.”
- How you relate to someone. Choosing to listen more than talk and try to fix every issue will help you relate better to people. Even when you have to talk, make sure it is done in a way it can build up, encourage and inspire.
- Loyalty. This has to do with your faithfulness (fidelity) to every single relationship you have. It demonstrates how devoted you are to any established relationship you have with someone. A goal in this area will be something like this. “This year, I will have a night out for at least two hours with each of my daughters.”
2. Care better.
Caring is also as important as loving.
- Caring is the expression of feeling you have for someone or something.
- Caring means showing concern for self, people and nature.
Caring has to do with three things:
- Self: spirit, soul, mind and body.
- Others.
- Nature.
Your goals should align with the idea of caring for yourself, others and nature.
Research on what’s going on in your community to see how I can do one or two things to help.
3. Serve better.
Love is what you feel about others and nature. Caring is the visible expression of what you feel for yourself, others and nature. Now serving is the doing.
Your goals are then in that order.
- Identify your passions meaning what you have affection for. It is hard to do anything if there is no passion or any feeling.
- Decide how you’re going to do it. Remember that whatever you decide to do should be specific, measurable, realistic and achievable.
- Now, get to action. It’s January and you should get going on what will make you love, care and serve better.
Yes, that’s how simple setting goals is.
- Love better.
- Care better.
- Serve better.
You were meant to grow and whatever goals you come up with this year, make sure they help you do just that.
May this year be a year of God’s favor for you and your family!
Please, remember to share this post with family and friends. That’s also one way of caring for others. You will never know how just one click can change someone’s life for the better. Thank you very much for doing so!
