Christmas reminds us of the gift of life we’ve received through faith in Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior.
Take a look at John 3:16,
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Based on the above scripture, you see the concept that it is only through Jesus we receive life. That’s the whole point for God coming to us through baby Jesus.
Christmas is the story of God
God coming to us, through Christ, is all about leading us back to Himself.
So, Christmas is the story season of God, the Creator, and the One not made. It’s the story of God, who made everything, visible or invisible, reaching out to His own creation.
This story is about the Maker of everything and everyone deciding to come and dwell among us. God chose to be with the people He had created.
He’s going to let the created care for the Creator in the form of a baby. Mary and Joseph, and all the others, had the responsibility to care for this child, Jesus. Yes, sinners would care for the One who knew no sin.
Throughout his brief life here on earth, Jesus would spend his entire life with people living on the edge of society: prostitutes, fishermen, tax collectors, the lepers, people just like you and I.
The coming of God wasn’t only about dwelling among us. More importantly, it was to help us know Him better through Jesus as well as learning the way back to God. Read the words of Jesus about that,
I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” John 14:6-7.
Jesus coming to us is that, not only we know God, The Father, but also experience abundant life (read John 10:10). This life affects us now and even after we leave this physical earth (through death). This abundant life we receive from God through Jesus Christ means we have:
To experience all of the above, we first have to believe and receive Jesus Christ. Read John 1:12.
Christmas is about making room for God
When Mary was about to give birth, she and Joseph both couldn’t find a room where the baby, the Savior of the world, was to be born. Read Luke 2:7.
You may probably wonder why God didn’t provide a nicer place where His Son was to be born. Is He not the King of kings? Why such humble beginnings for the One who came to save humankind from all generations?
Such humble beginnings were part of the plan (read Isaiah 53:2), including the fact that there was no room where Jesus was to enter this world as a baby.
Remember that “the God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands” (Acts 17:24).
The real temple where God wants to live is you. Read 1 Corinthians 6:19,
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own.
The question is “have you made room for God in your life through Christ?”
Bringing it together
Christmas is about God coming to us. It’s about God desiring to dwell in you. It’s a reminder that God, who is already here, wants to walk and talk with you. He wants to live in you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
