I don’t know about you, but I always believe that life’s much bigger than any of us. We plan our future, but the only thing we can control is the present.

The past and the future are two pieces of our lives that are beyond what we can fully change.

In other words, whether you have a plan for your life or not, there are things that will always happen to you. Cancer or any other illness, losing a job, a heartbreaking, and so forth.

How do you keep moving forward when facing all of that? That’s the question I attempt to answer in this post.

This is a two-step process that can help you keep moving forward no matter what happens in life. The steps are based on Hebrews 12: 1-3 (from the Christian Bible).

Whatever happens to you is a reality of life all humans face.

First, you are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses.

When we talk of witnesses, we think of people who see or those who hear. So, we’re talking about eye-witnesses and ear-witnesses.

For everything you do, there is always someone who sees what you do. And for everything you say, there is always someone who hears your words.

There’s a French saying, les murs ont des oreilles. Translated in English, it means, walls have ears. In other words, even when you think no one can see what you do or hear what you say, your actions or words can still get to somebody.

I would say that, with technology expanding today, lots of what we write, say or do may be stored some place and possibly shared some how.

I love what the Bible says about all this. We can think that we hide from others, but never can we hide from God’s sight. We may claim to have fled from people, but we will never flee from God’s presence or His Spirit. Read Hebrews 4: 13 and Psalm 139: 7.

What this implies is that there will always be someone watching what we do or hearing what we say. More importantly, there is a God who can even read your thoughts before you express them through words and actions.

Second, you’re a sinner.

Another reality of life you and every other human being face is sin. This is the brokenness that comes with being human, and which we all have to encounter whether we like it or not.

In other words, you and I are prone to making mistakes, disappointing each other and breaking agreements (covenants). As a result of all this, we break relationships and offend others.

When you read the book of Genesis (with focus on chapter 3), sin brought about death and other misfortunes we face today as humans.

Third, you have a destiny to fulfill.

There are two places in the Bible that speak so well to this. First, you’re here for a reason and your life, just as it is now, is a divine appointment.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah 1: 5, ESV.

Second, there is a certain way of life that’s appropriate to who you are, and which you’ve got to embrace.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2: 10, ESV.

With all this in mind, you need to do one thing.

What’s your anchor in life?

Your anchor in your life should be what helps you remain standing even in the midst of life’s storms.

An anchor is what keeps you steady even when everything else around you is changing.

Based on Hebrews 12, Jesus should be your anchor. He is my anchor and that’s for two reasons.

Jesus has been where you’ve not been yet in life.

According to Hebrews 12, Jesus is the pioneer of my faith. He already went through what I have gone through yet.

Nothing of what happens to you is new to Jesus. He knows it all because He’s already lived through it on your behalf.

Jesus equips you with what you need to boldly move into your future.

The bible calls Jesus the perfecter of our faith. He actually perfects you for your future. In order to experience, you’ve got to believe and trust Him. When you do so, here’s what happens next:

  • Jesus prepares you to face anything in your future.
  • Jesus refines you.
  • Jesus equips with the relevant tools to defeat all fears.
  • Jesus makes you faultless. As a result, you will never lose any battle because He has won all of them for you.

Jesus helps you not grow weary or lose heart.

Now, you’ve got to keep alert and watch. You do it by: do 3 things with Jesus being your anchor:

  • Talking to Jesus Christ, Himself, through prayer.
  • Talking to someone, a spiritual coach/mentor or a Pastor.

No matter what happens in your life, keep moving forward because Jesus is just right with you every step on the journey. Jesus helps you walk into your destiny, the works God has prepared beforehand for you to do. Trust Him. He is with you all the time!

Please, show some love with someone by sharing with them this post. Thank you very much for doing so!
