The month of May has always been a month of transitions. There are students graduating: pre-school going into Kindergaten, High school going into college and college into real life.
In case you did not know, one of my daughters graduated from pre-K. It was such a great blessing to see her walk in the room and stand with her classmates facing the audience. Here below are some pictures Lydia posted on Facebook.
These are not the only transitions humans go through in life. A change of careers, relocation, going into a nursing facility, and so forth.
But, how do we navigate transitions in life?
There are two pieces of Scripture that come to mind. The first goes as follows:
It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed (intimidated). Deuteronomy 31: 8. ESV.
The other one is:
I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out – plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. Jeremiah 29: 11. The Message.
This same Scripture reads this way, and probably how you know it:
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. ESV.
So, how can these Scriptures help us when we go through transitions?
Acknowledge that life’s made up of transitions
Whether you and I like it or not, we will face transitions in life, in one way or another. The process of going through them and the outcome are closely dependent on us.
Transitions come with the following:
- Excitement and anticipation of what to come.
- Uncertainty.
- Fear of the unknown.
- Intimidation.
Awareness of the fact that transitions are a big part of life helps in the way that we can easily identify and define our feelings and emotions.
It’s only when you clearly know what’s going on in your life that you can either invite others to celebrate with you or have them help you depending on your needs.
Know what God can do for you
There are two things you should know about what God can do for you when you go through transitions.
God promises you the following:
- He is with you everywhere you go.
- He will never let you down. He will never leave you.
God has plans for you:
- His plans are for your welfare, and not for evil. God has plans to take care of you.
- His plans are to give you a future. This is a future you hope for.
- God’s plans will make you hopeful again.
Partner with God
God’s promises and plans come into reality only when you and I let it happen. God never forces His way into human beings. He is always available, near you, but waiting for our personal invitation to have Him into our lives.
Here’s what you have to do in order to partner with God and eventually become able to navigate transitions God’s way.
- Do not be afraid. Fear not. Do not let anyone or anything intimidate you.
- Let God know all of your troubles, doubts, fears and unbelief.
- Have faith that God has a plan for your life that He will fulfill, no matter what happens to you.
- Invite Jesus to to walk with you into the future God has for you.
You can navigate any transition in life by acknowledging that transitions are part of life, believing that God has the best plan for you and inviting Jesus to walk and lead you into this future.
Congratulations to all those who’re graduating. Also, find some time to pray for all those who are going other transitions such as dying, relocating, grief, etc.
