Dealing with Doubts and Fears

Dealing with Doubts & Fears - Emmanuel Naweji

Let’s face it. Who doesn’t have doubts and fears?

I do and also know that you do too!

So, the question shouldn’t be about whether you have avoid doubts and fears, and how to eliminate them. It should always be: how do we handle doubts and fears as Christians?

Yes, if there is one thing that you and I cannot do, it’s to acquire a life with completely no doubts and fears. That’s not possible because we all experience them one way or another.

How then does a Christian have to handle doubts and fears?

Doubts and fears aren’t meant to push us away from God

Understand that doubts and fears are emotions. And, emotions are your human way to respond to what’s happening in your life.

In themselves, emotions have no power to change you or your life. It’s the choice you make about how to respond to your life’s events, which changes you.

Bottom line, you change yourself as a result of the choices you make. That process is what can make us be better or worse. Doubts and fears, also being emotions, are powerless in themselves.

But, what you choose to do with them is what can either push you away from God, or draw you closer to God.

Doubts and fears result from the lack of clarity

We find ourselves dealing with doubts and fears when: 1) we feel disoriented; 2) we lack clarity on what’s next; and 3) we lack understanding of what we’re going through in life; and the list goes on.

As Christians, we should always return to God.

Here’s why. Technology today has given such easy access to digital maps through the use of a GPS. And, of course, everything is great only when these technologies work. Right?

Let’s assume you’re using your phone’s GPS. When you miss an exit, your device will quickly suggest other possible routes to help you find your way back on the right path.

That’s also happens a lot in life. Doesn’t it?

But, in real life, we don’t have technologies to find our way back to where we should be in a given season.

Scripture, however, has lots of maps that can help us. The Bible is a very big book written in times that are culturally different from what we know today in the 21st century.

But, God, who inspired a variety of people from various places in life and the world to write God’s Word, doesn’t change. God did not create the cultures we have. We, humans, did.

The point is: bring all your doubts and fears to the One who can help you deal with them.

That’s how you turn all your emotions, including doubts and fears, into steps that help you draw closer to God, your Maker, Creator, and Lord.

As a result, you experience God’s peace and find your way back to where you should always be through Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6)

Read the following scriptures to help you make sense of what I’ve shared with you today: als

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” Psalm 55:22
