Another critical element of personal healing is a sense of freedom.
That’s in addition to faith and renewing of the mind, which I discussed in my previous articles. Find them here:
So, what kind of freedom do we then need for us to experience personal healing?
Freedom is a movement from one thing to something else and much better
A Scripture you can reflect on as you read the resto fo this article is John 8. Start with verses 1 through 11 with focus on verse 11.
The story is about a woman caught in adultery, and, according to Moses, who deserves death by stoning.
When people bring her to Jesus, He asks everyone, ready to condemn her, that if they have no sin, they should then throw the first stone at her.
No one stays when Jesus looks up. So, He is then going to say the woman these words:
Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.
Pay attention to the very last section in the above words,
Go, and from now on sin no more.
There, you see the foundation of the kind of freedom we all need for our personal healing.
-
-
- Get up and go from your current situation.
- Embrace a new lifestyle (sin no more) to propel you into a much better situation.
-
There is, not only a movement, but the choice to get up from whatever is going on in your life right now and move toward something different and new.
That’s freedom!
You are free because of God’s Light in you
John talks about Jesus being the light in the first chapter of his gospel. Jesus being the light of the world means several things, which include:
-
-
- We no longer walk in darkness.
- We have the light of life.
- We become the light of the world too.
- We overcome darkness and all its powers (read John 1: 5).
- God empowers us to love and live in harmony with each other.
- We overcome sin through the blood of Jesus Christ. (Read 1 John 1: 5-9).
-
You are free because you know the truth
Your freedom comes from knowing the truth (read John 8: 32).
But what is the truth?
Jesus Christ is Everlasting
Read the following Scriptures:
-
-
- John 1: 1-5.
- John 8: 58.
- Hebrews 13: 8.
-
Jesus Christ was 100% human when He was here on earth. That’s why He was born just like any of us. He went through every experience all human beings experience in life, including death.
Jesus is 100% divine. Prophets from old foretold His coming and what He would do among us. Jesus came out of the dead just as He had told the disciples because He is God.
[bctt tweet=”Nothing and no one could stop Jesus Christ from doing all what He did when He was here on earth. And, no one or nothing can stop Him from healing you today. He is God among us!” username=””]
Jesus can do all and in all. He is also all in all (read Colossians 3: 11).
And, because of all that, Jesus can help you do all things through His strength (read Philippians 4: 13).
There are two fathers. Who do you want to choose?
In John 8, Jesus is presenting two fathers and saying that we have a choice to make between God (our Heavenly Father) and the Devil.
He also said to the Jews, based on John 8, that being Abraham’s biological descendants doesn’t automatically make God our Father.
To have God be our Father, we then have to do this:
-
-
- Believe in Jesus Christ.
- Receive Jesus Christ into our lives and choose to make Him our personal Lord and Savior.
- Believe that becoming a child of God comes out of God’s power that enables us to do so. Read John 1: 12.
-
The truth about yourself
You are a child of the light, which means:
-
-
- You no longer belong to darkness (the Devil).
- You conquer darkness (John 1: 5).
- You bear the fruit of light (goodness, righteousness, truth). See 1 Thessalonians 5: 5.
- Your light shines before others. They see your good deeds and therefore glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5: 16).
-
You are free from your past:
First, master your feelings and emotions.
The reason to do so is that if you don’t, they will hold you back in your past because they are all connected to past experiences. But, you have to master and conquer your feelings and emotions.
Second, move onward.
The reasons are that there is an open door before you that no one can shut (Revelation 3: 8). Also, your best future is what God is holding in His hands (Psalm 31: 15). Lastly, keep knocking, seeking, and asking (through prayer, study, Christian fellowship, and service – see Matthew 7: 7-8).
Bringing it altogether
While your freedom is a gift from God, it still requires you to choose making God your Father. Doing so will unlock the truth about who God is, from the very beginning, and who He has intended you to be. As a result, you experience healing every time you’re hurt.
